Self Portrait

Objectives:

- To provide the participants an opportunity to examine the development of "self" and social identity.
|
|
- To empower individuals in self definition and direction.
|

Activities:
|
|
|
With mirrors, photographs of participants from different ages, and acetate overlays, participants engage in an exercise in which they explore the ways they
have defined themselves and have experienced social definitions of self.

Golden Threads
|

Objectives:
|

|
- To heighten participant awareness of the difficulties inherent in inter-personal interactions.
|
|
- To assist participants understanding of delicate nature of inter-personal dynamics, especially when, in the work place, they are dealing with a high
volume of consumer-server interaction.

- To give participants confidence and practical skills to apply in their jobs when working within a demanding workplace environment.

Activities:
|
|
|
Participants engage in a "metaphorical" work environment in which specific environmental and social factors are present. As the participants
"role-play" their assigned "part" in the "Golden Threads” work environment, they have the opportunity to understand the challenges inherent in their work role, as well as special strategies
for coping and succeeding.

Secrets & Mysteries
|

Objectives:
|
|
|
- To enhance the participants' appreciation of human diversity.
|
|
- To help participants understand new levels of human dynamics between individuals when unknown (secret) factors exist.
|
|
- To introduce the concept of stigma in relation to the hiding of one's self in society in relation to common social secrets such as disease, Aids, gender
preference, inter-racial marriages, imprisonment, etc.

Participants do various "exclusion" exercises (keep "others" out of circle); discuss nature of secrets in relationship dynamics and
society.
